St. Maximilian Kolbe
St. Maximilian Kolbe was born in Poland in 1894 and at the age of 10 saw a vision of the Virgin Mary. She offered him a white crown and a red crown, representing purity and martyrdom. He chose both, a foreshadowing of his life to come. He joined the Conventual Franciscans when he was 13 and founded the Militia of the Immaculata (MI) in 1917.
Ordained a priest in 1918, Fr. Maximilian returned to Poland and began his untiring missionary activity, starting a monthly magazine and establishing two cities dedicated to the Immaculate Virgin: Niepokalanow in Poland and Mugenzai no Sono in Japan. In 1913, during World War II, Niepokalanow was used as a hospital and refuge for thousands of refugees, especially Jews. In May 1941, Fr. Kolbe was arrested and taken to Auschwitz concentration camp. After offering to die in place of another prisoner, Fr. Kolbe spent two weeks in a starvation bunker and then died on August 14, 1941, when he was injected with carbolic acid. Pope John Paul II cononized him a saint and "Martyr of Charity" on October 19, 1982.
Mark Ahn
Janga! My name is Mark Ahn. I'm from Buffalo Grove, Illinois, and really love it there because my parents and my stuff are there. I am hyperventilating about MAX ‘007 and I came because I’m extremely excited about it. Seriously. I first heard about the MI in 2000 at the World Youth Day in Rome. I think the most amazing thing about the life of St. Max is his unwavering belief and faith in the goodness of God’s grace and his love for Our Lady.
I always dreamed that someday I would write a book, and that dream has yet to come true. But that's ok because I know I’ll get to it later; I’m busy now. My favorite inspirational quote is by Fulton Sheen: “Love resides primarily in the will, not in the emotions or glands.” I like talking, sleeping, sports, writing, reading, teaching, telling jokes, music, observing, and watching movies critically. There are many things I’m good at and one of them is making people comfortable. I did a really interesting thing once and that was getting kidnapped. My immediate family consists of my parents, myself and my younger brother Edward. If I could improve one thing about myself it would be accepting how God has made me. The saints whose lives have had the greatest impact on my own life are St. Max and St. Faustina. The one thing I want to be remembered for is loving other people into loving more. As far as my future is concerned, I hope to create something unique someday.
Pope Benedict XVI’s message to youth of “Love one another as I have loved you” inspires me to understand the person that God has created me to be, which motivates me to share what is most precious (love) to others.

Laura Price
Hello, my name is Laura Price. My hometown is pending, and I really wonder where I’ll settle because I just moved from my home state of California to Front Royal, Virginia. I am eager and excited about MAX ‘007 and I came because I want to serve Our Lady by using my gifts to help bring her to others. I first heard about the MI when I was 11 years old and my mom sent me on a weekend retreat. I think the most amazing thing about the life of St. Max was his gift of charity, his selflessness and suffering willed out of love.
I always dreamed that someday I would be a mom, and that dream has not come true. I feel ok about that because I know God will lead me wherever I am meant to be. My favorite inspirational quote is “Let go and let God,” and “Lord to whom should I go. You alone have the words of eternal life.” I like to cook, hang out with my brothers and sisters and nieces. There are many things I’m good at and one of them is making dinner! I did a really interesting thing once and that was Drive from California to Virginia with two of my brothers. My immediate family consists of a mom, a dad, six brothers, seven sisters, my Grandma Gloria, my 102 year old Great Grandma Rogers and a brother in Heaven. If I could improve one thing about myself it would be to be more loving like Our Lady. The saints whose lives have had the greatest impact on my own life are St. Faustina, St. Pio and Our Lady of Fatima. The one thing I want to be remembered for is loving others and living unselfishly. As far as my future is concerned, I hope to become holier and closer to God someday.

Melissa Royston
Hi there! My name is Melissa Royston. My hometown is Wayne, Illinois, and I really love it there because it is a small town where you can feel safe and climb trees. I am super excited about MAX ‘007 and I came because Our Lady is taking me on the ride of my life! I first heard about the MI when I was a very young; my family had been involved for years. I think the most amazing thing about the life of St. Max is his tremendous strength and ability to love, as well as his initiative throughout his life.
I always dreamed that someday I would be a famous singer, and that dream has not quite come true. I’m a bit disappointed about it now because I have lacked the confidence to get out there and do it. My favorite inspirational saying is “Don’t pull up in unbelief, what God has planted in Faith.” I like to craft, cook for others, play music, play outside and read books. There are many things I’m good at and one of them is singing. I did a really interesting thing once and that was travel to El Salvador on my own when I was 13 years old and stay with my sister in an orphanage in the mountains. My family consists of Mom (RIP) and Dad, Ricky, Susan, Michele, Katie and my six nieces and nephews with two more on the way. If I could improve one thing about myself it would be my communication skills! The saint whose life has had the greatest impact on my own life is St. Therese, the Little Flower. The one thing I want to be remembered for is my kindness and strength in faith. As far as my future is concerned, I hope to submit fully to Our Lady’s will.
Pope Benedict XVI’s message to youth of “Love one another as I have loved you” inspires me to be really, really ridiculously loving.
Cow Shea
Hey kids, my name is Cow Shea. My hometown is Seattle and I really enjoy kickin’ it there because it’s cool and damp and large portions of my friends and family are there. I am simultaneously stoked and ignorant about MAX ‘007 and I came because it seemed I could help. I first heard about the MI through my sister when I was 12. I think the most amazing thing about the life of St. Max is how he practically searched out the implausible and the impossible, and showed the strength of God in them.
I always dreamed that someday I would take a huge adventuresome road trip, and that dream is coming true. I feel overjoyed because there is no better road trip than a Catholic road trip. My favorite inspirational saying is “Be good.” Some things I like to do include fighting polar bears, swing dancing and growing beards. There are many things I’m good at and one of them is laughing. I did a really interesting thing once and that was ate a delicious Roman pear. My family consists of a wide-spread exploding plethora of jocularity. If I could improve one thing about myself it would be the frequency of my grin. The saints whose lives have had the greatest impact on my own life are in chronological order: St. Therese, John Paul II, St. Max, St. Francis and more to come. The one thing I want to be remembered for is flamboyant humility and forgetability. As far as my future is concerned, I hope to continue working towards holiness.
Pope Benedict XVI’s message to youth of “Love one another as I have loved you” inspires me to give up my means of honest employment, give up my friends, and give up my possessions, and live on the road for 6 months being with and praying with youth.
